Facing Unplanned Pregnancy and Addiction: Is Adoption an Option?

Unplanned Pregnancy

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy while struggling with addiction, you may be wondering what options are available and where to turn for support.

During this time, you may find yourself asking, “Do I still have any choices?” The answer is yes. No matter what your situation is today, you still deserve support, honest information, and people who will treat you with care. Adoption by Shepherd Care is here for you.

With a combined experience of over 100 years, we have been supporting birth mothers throughout their adoption journey. We are here to listen, not judge. Our team will support you in exploring your choices so you can decide what is best for you and your baby.

Your Situation Does Not Define You

Everyone has a different story. Some women may be working through addiction while also making decisions about their pregnancy. This can make you feel stressed and alone. At such a moment, remember, asking for help is a brave step. You do not have to carry everything by yourself. Our team can explain how your circumstances may affect the process and what support is available.

Can You Still Choose Adoption?

Yes. Many women wonder if addiction means they cannot choose adoption. However, that is not true. In many situations, adoption is still an option.

Get Professional Support

The best way to learn about your choices is to talk with an adoption professional. When you reach out to us, our team will explain the entire process and answer your concerns. Besides, learning about adoption does not mean you have made your decision. But being informed can help you make a wise decision for your future and your baby’s.

Adoption Gives You Choices

If adoption feels right for you, you can be part of the process. You, like any other birth mother, will be able to choose the adoptive family. You can also share your wishes for your baby’s future and decide what kind of contact you would like after placement.

We’ll explain to you all your options, answer your questions, and provide the information you need to make a decision.

You Do Not Have to Figure Everything Out Today

It is okay if you do not know what to do right now. You do not need all the answers today. Start by asking questions and learning about your options. The more you know, the easier it may be to make an informed decision.

Adoption by Shepherd Care Here for You!

No matter where you are in your journey, talking with an adoption professional is a good first step. We can explain your options and connect you with available support.

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and addiction, contact Adoption by Shepherd Care today. We will listen to your concerns, help you understand your choices, and support you throughout the adoption journey.

Official Statement from
Adoption by Shepherd Care

It has come to our attention that the Hulu series Good American Family contains inaccurate information regarding Adoption by Shepherd Care (ASC) and the adoption of Natalia. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the facts.

Contrary to what is presented in the documentary, ASC did not initiate any communication or have any involvement with Mr. or Mrs. Barnett in connection to Natalia’s adoption. The legal adoption process for Natalia was completed in the state of New Hampshire, where the original adoptive family resided, and was facilitated through a New Hampshire-based agency—not Adoption by Shepherd Care.

For those seeking further clarification, we encourage you to watch The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, Season 2, Episode 1, which clearly states that Adoption by Shepherd Care was not the agency responsible for facilitating this adoption.

We want to express our respect for all agencies and professionals engaged in this vital work. However, it is essential that accurate information is shared with the public and that the correct entities are acknowledged for their role in any adoption process.

At Adoption by Shepherd Care, we remain steadfast in our mission to place children in safe, loving, and permanent homes. We uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethical practice, and compassion for the children and families we serve.

We respectfully request that the media and members of the public refrain from further spreading misinformation related to this matter. While we understand the interest in this case, we also urge respect for the privacy and dignity of all individuals involved. Adoption is a deeply personal and emotional journey that must be approached with sensitivity and integrity.

Adoption by Shepherd Care will continue its unwavering commitment to finding loving and permanent placements for children, guided by the principles of honesty, compassion, and respect.
